For the past several years Friends of the St. Joe River has had a program in place involving schools and students within the watershed to collect data about the river and its tributaries. There are three objectives for this program:
Current tests include collecting benthic macroinvertebrate data, and phase two will include water chemistry data. Results of the data collected can be entered and viewed online by clicking the blue text below. Data for the Indiana section of the river is collected by the Hoosier River Watch Program. Follow prompts to "St. Joseph 04050001" from the map that is provided on their site.
Dr. Ray Leising is the Water Quality Program Manager for the Michigan section of the St. Joe River. Dr. Leising visits the schools and provides training and workshops for the program. The Friends organization would like to invite schools, individuals, and organizations within the watershed who are interested in the St. Joe River and the quality of its water to participate in these interesting programs. Contact: Dr. Ray Leising, 41 Hull St. Coldwater, MI 49036 or by email at raleising@cbpu.com.
